The Dobra is the official currency of the island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe, introduced in 2018 to replace the former São Tomé and Príncipe dobra (STD) at a conversion rate of 1,000 old dobra to 1 new dobra. Issued by the Central Bank of São Tomé and Príncipe, it serves as the primary medium of exchange for all domestic transactions, ranging from everyday market purchases to government payments.

Denominated in whole Dobra units and subdivided into 100 centavos, the currency uses the symbol “Db”. Banknotes and coins feature local wildlife, such as the endemic São Tomé shrew, and prominent national figures, reflecting the country’s cultural heritage. The name “dobra” translates to “good” in Portuguese, a nod to the optimistic outlook of the nation’s economy.
