Description
The Sudanese pound is the official currency of Sudan, issued by the Central Bank of Sudan. Introduced in 1992 to replace the Sudanese dinar at a rate of 1 pound = 10 dinars, it is subdivided into 100 piastres (qirsh). The pound is denoted by the symbol £ and is commonly written as SDG in international markets.
Sudan’s economy has faced significant challenges, including high inflation and currency devaluation, which have impacted the pound’s purchasing power. The currency is used throughout the country for all transactions, and its banknotes feature prominent national symbols such as the Mahdi’s tomb and the Nile River. Arabic is the primary language, with English also used in official contexts.
