The Naira is the official currency of Nigeria, introduced in 1973 to replace the Nigerian pound. It is issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is denoted by the symbol ₦. One Naira is subdivided into 100 Kobo.

Banknotes are issued in 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Naira, while coins include 50 Kobo, 1 and 2 Naira. The 200 Naira note famously features the portrait of Nigeria’s first president, Nnamdi Azikiwe, a detail often highlighted by collectors.
