The Namibian dollar is the official legal tender of Namibia, introduced in 1993 shortly after the country gained independence. It replaced the South African rand and is pegged at a one‑to‑one parity with the rand, meaning both currencies are accepted as legal tender throughout Namibia.

Issued by the Bank of Namibia, the dollar is divided into 100 cents and is symbolised by N$. Coins and banknotes showcase indigenous wildlife, cultural symbols and historic figures such as the nation’s first president. Because of the fixed exchange rate, the Namibian dollar circulates alongside the South African rand, a quirky feature that allows seamless cross‑border transactions within the Southern African region.
