Description
The Macedonian denar is the official currency of North Macedonia, introduced in 1992 following the country's independence from the former Yugoslavia. It replaced the Yugoslav dinar at a conversion rate of 1 denar = 100 dinars and is issued by the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia.
The denar is subdivided into 100 deni and its symbol is ден. Banknotes and coins feature national symbols, historic figures and landmarks, reflecting the country's cultural heritage. The name derives from the ancient Roman coin “denarius”, a nod to the region's long monetary history.
