Description
The Liberian dollar is the official currency of Liberia, introduced in 1847 and reissued after periods of civil conflict. It is issued by the Central Bank of Liberia and is subdivided into 100 cents.
Although the dollar has been pegged to the U.S. dollar at a 1:1 rate for much of its recent history, it circulates alongside the U.S. dollar, and both are legal tender. Coins and banknotes feature national symbols such as the Liberian coat of arms and portraits of former presidents.
