Description
The Comorian franc is the official currency of the Union of the Comoros, an archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. It is issued by the Central Bank of the Comoros and is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate, which helps stabilize the small open economy that relies heavily on agriculture, fishing, and tourism.
The franc is subdivided into 100 centimes, although centime coins are rarely used in everyday transactions. The currency is denoted by the symbol Fr and is commonly referred to in French as “franc comorien.” The Comoros uses French, Arabic, and the indigenous language Shikomor, and its citizens are known as Comorians.
