Description
The Kenyan shilling is the official currency of Kenya, issued by the Central Bank of Kenya. It is subdivided into 100 cents, although cent coins are no longer in circulation, and the most common denominations are the 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 shilling notes.
Introduced in 1966 to replace the East African shilling, the shilling features portraits of former presidents and national symbols such as the lion and the African fish eagle. The currency is widely used in everyday transactions, and its symbol is KSh. Despite occasional inflationary pressures, the shilling remains a stable medium of exchange in East Africa.
