Description
The Guinean franc is the official currency of the Republic of Guinea, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea. It is denoted by the symbol Fr and is subdivided into 100 centimes, although centime coins are no longer in circulation.
Introduced in 1959 to replace the CFA franc, the franc has experienced periods of high inflation, leading to the issuance of large‑denomination banknotes such as the 10,000‑franc note. Cash transactions dominate the economy, and the franc is not freely convertible on international markets.
