Description
The Georgian lari is the official currency of Georgia, a country situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Issued by the National Bank of Georgia, the lari is subdivided into 100 tetri and is represented by the symbol ₾.
Introduced in 1995 to replace the temporary coupon (kuponi) after a period of hyperinflation, the lari has been relatively stable. In 2014, the ₾ symbol was officially adopted, making it one of the few modern currencies with a unique typographic sign. The currency is widely used in everyday transactions, from markets in Tbilisi to remote mountain villages.
