CLP / ZAR

The Chilean peso is the official currency of Chile, issued by the Banco Central de Chile. It is denoted by the symbol $ and is commonly written as CLP to distinguish it from other peso currencies. The peso is divided into 100 centavos, although centavo coins have been withdrawn from circulation and are no longer used in everyday transactions.

Introduced in 1975 to replace the escudo, the peso has undergone several redesigns, most recently in 2015, featuring prominent national figures and landmarks. Chile’s economy is heavily export‑oriented, and the peso’s value is closely watched by investors due to the country’s strong mining sector, especially copper. Despite occasional inflationary pressures, the currency remains a key benchmark in Latin American markets.
