Description
The Unidad de Fomento (UF) is a Chilean unit of account introduced in 1967 to index financial contracts and public prices to inflation. Although it is not a physical cash currency, its value is daily adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index and is expressed in Chilean pesos.
It is widely used for mortgages, loans, real estate transactions, and many government fees, providing a stable reference that protects against inflationary erosion. The UF is issued and regulated by the Central Bank of Chile and is denoted by the symbol UF.
