The Burundi franc is the official currency of Burundi, a landlocked nation in East Africa. It is issued by the Bank of the Republic of Burundi and is subdivided into 100 centimes, although centime coins are no longer in circulation, making the franc effectively a non‑decimal unit in everyday transactions.

Banknotes are available in denominations of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 francs, while coins exist in 1, 5, 10 and 20‑franc denominations. The franc has experienced periods of high inflation, prompting the government to phase out lower‑value notes and coins. French and Kirundi are the official languages, and the currency is commonly referred to in French as “Franc burundais.”
