Description
USD Coin (USDC) is a fiat‑backed stablecoin that aims to maintain a 1:1 peg with the United States dollar. Launched in 2018 by the Centre consortium, a partnership between Circle and Coinbase, each USDC token is fully collateralised by cash and short‑term U.S. Treasury securities held in regulated accounts.
USDC is issued on multiple public blockchains, most prominently Ethereum as an ERC‑20 token, but also on Algorand, Solana, Stellar, and others, enabling fast and low‑cost transfers. Because it is dollar‑denominated, it is widely used for trading, payments, and decentralized finance applications across the globe.
